Where the ZIMO’S™ journey began
ZIMO’S™ was born from a simple observation and a desire to make learning more accessible to children.
A simple observation
Around the year 2000, Abdul, the inventor of ZIMO’S™, began to recognise that many families around the world did not have access to computers, educational technology and other modern learning resources.
For some families, the challenge was not only the cost of these technologies, but also whether parents had the knowledge or computer skills needed to use them effectively as educational tools for their children.
Abdul began asking himself a simple question:
“How can we create an educational tool that children can enjoy, that families can use together, and that does not depend on expensive technology?”
That question became the beginning of the ZIMO’S™ journey.
To an educational board game
Abdul dedicated countless days and nights to developing, testing and refining an idea that could bring education and fun together around a board game.
Through years of trial and error, the concept gradually developed into what would become ZIMO’S™ — an educational board game designed to encourage children to learn while playing.
The philosophy was simple:
Learning does not always have to happen in front of a screen.
A board game can create an opportunity for children, parents, teachers and friends to interact, communicate, practise what they have learned and enjoy the learning process together.
What children pick up while they play
ZIMO’S™ was developed with the belief that children can learn valuable skills while participating in an enjoyable game. Depending on the version of the game, ZIMO’S™ incorporates areas such as:
- 1
Reading
- 2
Letters and words
- 3
Numbers and basic sums
- 4
General knowledge
- 5
Communication and interaction
- 6
Concentration and quick thinking
- 7
Teamwork and sharing
- 8
Life skills and positive values
The intention is not to replace teachers, schools or modern technology. Rather, ZIMO’S™ was created as an additional educational tool that can help support learning through interaction and play.
A game for children, families and educators
One of the important ideas behind ZIMO’S™ is that learning can become a shared experience.
Play individually
Children can enjoy ZIMO’S™ on their own, at their own pace, depending on the version and the environment.
Play in pairs
Children can play with their parents, siblings, friends, teachers or classmates.
Play in teams
Teams bring the whole family or classroom together around the board.
This creates something beyond simply moving pieces around a board. It creates an opportunity to:
An idea around the year 2000
What began as an idea developed through years of dedication, experimentation and refinement.
Today
ZIMO’S™ continues to evolve as an educational board game for children, with versions designed for the foundation phase and incorporating the CAPS system, particularly Grades R–4.
The question that remains
The journey that began with one question remains at the heart of ZIMO’S™: how can we make learning accessible, enjoyable and meaningful through play? That is the idea behind ZIMO’S™.
